What’s in My Bag: Equestrian Edition

While you may have seen magazine features showing the insides of celebrities’ purses and tote bags, we all know how many wild things can be found inside the bag of an equestrian! Some of our employees let us dig around in their bags to show you just what kinds of surprises we’re carrying around! This week, one of the Saratoga store’s Sales Associates, Leandra Cooper, who is also the founder of Saratoga Sporthorses/Laveer Equestrian LLC, and NY Facility Manager/Trainer for New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program spills for us!

A Shmorgishborg of Things

“I like to say that my bag is like Mary Poppins’ bag; it seems like it has no bottom some days,” explains Cooper. “There’s a little bit of everything in there! Inside the Longchamp Le Pliage Large Nylon Shoulder Tote (it endures a lot of abuse and otherwise fatal oh-so-common spills), the collection of things ranges from peppermints to horse brushes, and everywhere in between. Most of the contents have both human and horse purposes, unsurprisingly.”

Unilife Stomach Treat Papaya Puree: “This puree is great for addressing stomach upset – both in horses and in humans. For humans, mix it up with water for a tasty beverage.”

Andover Healthcare Co-Flex Cohesive Bandage: “When doesn’t it come in handy? I’m convinced that in a pinch, cohesive wrap and duct tape can fix just about anything.”

Intrepid International Brush Deluxe, hardwood mane and tail brush (The Cheshire Horse, $4.50): “When you have horse-sized problems with human hair on the go, this little brush comes in handy!”

Warhorse Solutions Pet Shampoo & Conditioner: “I love this shampoo/conditioner! I brought home these samples for the horses and was hooked immediately. It’s made with coconut, castor, avocado, almond and raw sunflower oils, and is effective in cleaning while being sensitive enough for even delicate skin. The lemon verbena lavender smell is so nice too – and it lasts!”

Other odds and ends include:

  • Essie Nail Polish in Mint Candy: “For touch-ups on the fly.”
  • AWST International Emory Board (The Cheshire Horse, $3.95): “Nail breakage is a serious pet peeve of mine and also a hazard of the job.”
  • Benefit Cosmetics SugarBomb Lip Gloss: “This stuff is glossy without being sticky and smells like candy.”
  • The Naked Bee Naked Zinc SPF 30 Sunscreen Stick: “I’m a serious sunscreen fanatic because of my pale completion.”
  • Omron ElectroTherapy TENS Unit: “Such a great tool for relaxing tight muscles without putting a halt on your busy day.”
  • Steep 18 Organic Unsweetened Mocha Cold Brew: “I tried this cold brew coffee on a whim and it is absolutely heavenly.”
  • Blue Diamond Almonds: “A favorite snack of mine and always handy to have around for when hunger strikes.”

Some other self-explanatory staples include Tylenol, writing implements (a highlighter and pen), peppermints, and an iPhone charger plug.

Overall, we’d say that Cooper’s bag was altogether unsurprising for an equestrian – full of multi-purpose items and solutions for a non-stop lifestyle!
