The Ruffwear Hi & Light Harness has been great for our five-year-old dog, a Basenji/Whippet mix, Shiva. She has a wide chest compared to the rest of her body, so buying a harness that fits perfectly hasn’t been the easiest task. This harness fits her very well; the adjustable straps fold in and can be hidden away within the harness so extra slack isn’t dangling. There is also a convenient pocket on the top of the harness that we keep her waste bags in, and it could work for pet ID information too!
The clip on the top of the harness pairs nicely with her Ruffwear Knot-A-Leash. When I take Shiva for runs while I skateboard, the Ruffwear harness and the Knot-A-Leash are a durable and secure combination; I know she won’t be slipping away from me. She visibly enjoys keeping up to speed with me with this configuration. The harness is wide enough across her chest and shoulders that I can tell she feels comfortable exerting more energy on our outings as opposed to when it was just her collar and leash.
Shiva’s coat is very thin, so I have found that some other harnesses rub her underarms and give her friction burns. This irritation usually leads to her chewing her harness in an effort to get it off. The Ruffwear Hi & Light Harness is very soft on her skin, despite being so durable. She can comfortably wear it all day hiking or even while she is relaxing. The debris-resistant liner helps avoid skin irritation. We have washed it several times now (Shiva likes to roll in who-knows-what!) and it’s stayed very resilient and colorful.
She has a very dark coat, making her tough to photograph and even harder to find in the woods when she wanders off. We purchased the Blue Atoll color and not only is it pretty, it is also very bright! We can easily spot her anywhere she goes in the woods now. The reflective trim also helps my husband and me keep an eye on her after the sun has gone down for the day.
I would highly recommend this harness to anyone who needs to run out the door for a quick errand and, alternatively, when they want to run out the door for a long, outdoor experience!
