Holiday Dinner Dog Treats

These delicious treats combine all the wonderful flavors of a holiday dinner, while also using delicious whole-food ingredients. Be sure that you do not use leftovers for these cookies because many holiday meals contain ingredients such as garlic, onions, or excess salt that can be harmful to your dog’s health. These are a great option for finicky dogs who may not typically prefer fruit or vegetable flavors.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of chopped or shredded cooked meat (such as beef, pork, or chicken breast)
  • 1 cup of boiled dog-safe vegetables (carrots or green beans are popular choices)
  • 1 boiled potato (peeled)
  • 1 tablespoon of grated parmesan cheese (optional)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup of all-purpose flour (chickpea flour and barley flour also work well)

Directions

  1. Begin by preheating your oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Combine the meat, vegetables, potato, cheese (if using), and egg in a food processor. Pulse the ingredients until they are well combined and form a paste.
  4. Gradually add the flour and pulse the mixture until a dough forms and you have a ball that pulls away from the sides of the food processor.
  5. Roll the dough into walnut-sized balls (approximately 1 tablespoon) and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Gently push the dough balls down with your fingers to slightly flatten them, or use a fork to push cross-hatch patterns into the dough.
  7. Cook the cookies for 25-30 minutes, or until they appear to be firm to the touch.
  8. Allow the cookies to cool in the oven.
  9. Store the cookies in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
